Color of June: Inspiration

I'm diverting from the norm a little, hope you don't mind. I was exploring some art online and found some great work that happened to be in June's color scheme. I found quite a few pieces by Alice X. Zhang that shared this pallet. Love them!

Altitude Design Summit

Earlier this year my friend and fellow blogger Amber, from The Electric Typewriter, had the chance to attend the Alt Summit in Utah. I had only just started blogging, which is probably a good thing because I had no idea what I was missing out on.

The Alt Summit is an amazing get together of and for bloggers. Amber had the chance to meet some of her favorite bloggers and take some very cool classes, like Food Photography and Paper Craft. She had an amazing time and after hearing about all the things she learned, I have graciously invited myself along for next years trip to Utah.

I just found out that Alt has a host of online classes that they offer from their website, found here. The classes cover a wide range of topics, from "DSLR 101" to "Technical Writing for Bloggers". I would love to take their "Designing Inspiration Boards" and "Photoshop for Bloggers" classes. A big shout out to Bing for running a special promo in partnership with Alt to provide two of these classes free, just for mentioning them.

I'm excited to share what I learn.
Thanks Bing!!

Color of June No. 1

This week I'm thankful for:

A new orange dress
Having co-workers I can laugh with
Watching my vegetable garden come to life
Waking up to chirping birds
Yummy BBQ

I'm so sad that this month is almost gone. June's color scheme has been one of my favorites yet. My biggest enemy will always be time. Im currently working on a way to get by with no sleep on any given night. My hurdle right now is the money needed for that much coffee.

I will say that I did stop my car the other day when I saw an orang scooter, but the pictures didn't come out to well. I'm gonna call it a win for turning the car around.

Not Half Bad

It's over
It's done
But really....it's just begun.

There have been blisters..oh so many blisters. There have been sore muscles but I can't say I shed any tears, or pounds for that matter. Mostly, these last few month have been filled with sacrifices. So the big question has to be, was it worth it? For me the answer has to be, without a doubt.

I finished my first half marathon this last weekend. I have run a few 5k's over the years, but can't say that I had been a runner, just a girl that trained for a few runs. My husband and I have been having discussions of late, as to the "why" of races. Why do people do them? What is the motivation? My motivation is a drive to prove to myself that I can. And I did!

Honestly though, the last few days I have been struggling with the lack of elation felt when crossing the finish line. Where were the tears of joy, the feeling of victory? I just accomplished something remarkable, so why don't I feel like it?

As it has happened so many times before, the answer didn't hit me until I started typing. I had accomplished something remarkable, but it was well before the day of the race. Every day that I went out for a run after a full day of work was a victory. Every weekend I left my family at home to go for a long run was an obstacle overcome.

Truthfully, I earned my "Half Marathon Runner" status well before I crossed the finish line. By the morning of the race I had run for hundreds of miles, what was 13 more? The race itself was really a celebration, a chance to recognize the effort put forth to get us there.

I had been expecting something life changing when I crossed that line, but the moment had already found me, every time I laced up my running shoes. Now I'm not just a girl who has run in a few races, I'm a runner who celebrates her success by participating in races.
I can't wait for the next party.

Color Of June

It's so funny to me how my tastes have changed over the years. I used to love rich dark colors, but lately have found my self drawn to all things bright and vibrant.

This month is going to be all about capturing the moment. I am beginning to realize that I see great shots all the time, but I don't make the extra effort required to capture them. So many times I see things as I drive and think "Oh that would be a great photo" or "That van is the perfect color orange for this month", but I don't stop the car. It would only take a few minutes. I can think of at least three times in the last week that I have regretted letting the shot slip away.

I'm not letting life pass me by, I'm passing by life......or at least I was.

Boots for Walking

This is something that I have been wanting to try for a while. I found these boots at Payless for $20 and traded out the cotton laces for some lace laces. I had been looking for a black and floral pattern ribbon but when I saw the lace it just seemed right. I can't wait to try the boots out with some lace tights and skirt. In my head it's super cute.

Color of May No. 3

This week I'm thankful for:

Fresh cut grass
Around 7pm in my living room when the sun dances through the leaves
"Good Earth" Tea
A Mom who takes time to just listen
Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccinos (the only one I will have all year, but so yummy)

I realize that technically it is no longer May, but I wanted to post these photos because they mostly fall in May's color scheme. I have to admit that gathering shots for this month was more difficult then I was expecting, but in the end I did get a few. I wanted to take more pictures of the asparagus, but my husband kept giving me "The Look" while standing with the grocery cart in the middle of the produce section. :)
